Automatic gate opening systems can be defined as gates integrated with electronic components such as proximity sensors, actuators and controlling software primarily to reduce human effort in opening and closing of gates.It can be operated electrically and operated by switch, remote or any other access control system.

Automatic gate openers come in two varieties, those that swing open and those that slide open. Swing gates open much like a door, swinging inward or outward to open. Most swinging gate door openers work with either single gate panels or dual gates. There are six types of commonly used automatic gates. These include the slide gate, cantilever gate, swing gate, vertical lift gate, vertical pivot lift gate, bi-folding gate, and barrier arm gate.
